Noam Elkies
Professor of Mathematics
Born in NYC, and raised there and in Israel, I came here for math grad school, earned my Ph.D. in 1987, and have been here ever since, first as a Junior Fellow and now as a faculty member. Most of my research is in number theory, but I welcome discussion on any mathematical topic. My other lifelong love is music: I’ve been playing the piano and writing music as long as I can remember, studied both at Juilliard while in high school, and still pursue them, and some choral singing, on campus and elsewhere; at Lowell, you might see me at High Table, Coffeehouse, Trivia, or behind the Opera scenes. Find me in the Dining Hall or at Tea to discuss math, music, Israel, chess, or other topics of shared interest.
