I chair the composition department at the New England Conservatory of Music and head the composition program at the Tanglewood Music Center. I have taught at Harvard University, Indiana University, Boston University, and Phillips Academy (Andover). In addition to my longstanding relationship with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, I work closely with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as a member of their ‘Atlanta School’ of composers. My discography includes The Garden of Cosmic Speculation (Telarc), two BMOP Sound recordings: Y2k Compliant and From the Institutes of Groove, and works recorded on the Deutsche Grammophon, ASO Media, BSO Classics, Reference Recordings, Foghorn Classics, CRI, Innova, and Klavier labels.
