Joyce Chaplin
James Duncan Phillips Professor of Early American History
I’m the James Duncan Phillips Professor of Early American History at Harvard, also affiliated with History of Science, American Studies, and the Harvard University Center for the Environment. In and around my Harvard career, I've taught at six universities on two continents, an island, and a peninsula, and in a maritime studies program on the Atlantic Ocean. I research, teach, advise, and converse about the human place within the natural world. Most important: I lived in Lowell House as a visiting professor in the 1998-99 academic year—Lowell will always mean “home” to me. Oh, and I tweet @JoyceChaplin1
