Desiree Johnson

Hi! My name is Desiree, and I was born and raised in California. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and my master’s degree in Neurobiology from the University of California, San Diego. I am currently a doctoral student in the Program in Neuroscience at Harvard University.
 

My research broadly focuses on how neuromodulators shape brain circuits involved in pain, reward, and motivation. In the lab of Susan Dymecki, I study how serotonin influences drug reward in the brainstem and midbrain using approaches that combine genetics and neuroscience.

I am passionate about supporting students and enjoy mentoring, helping with graduate school applications, and preparing students for their next career steps. Outside of research and mentoring, I enjoy trying new restaurants, running, and practicing yoga.
