Professor of Mathematics
Denis Auroux
After growing up and obtaining my PhD in France, I came to the US in 1999. I was on the math department faculty at MIT from 1999 to 2009 and at UC Berkeley from 2009 to 2018 before moving to Harvard in 2018. My research studies the geometry of "symplectic manifolds," a kind of space that was first considered in classical mechanics but now arises in various branches of mathematics and physics. In my spare time (which is very limited due to two children and to poor time management skills), I enjoy playing the piano and participating in sudoku competitions.
