Abigail Joseph

Non-Resident Tutor
MD-PhD Candidate, Harvard Medical School and MIT

Hi Lowellians! My name is Abby and I'm a first year in the MD-PhD program. I grew up in the suburbs right outside of Boston and in undergrad at Harvard College I studied Molecular and Cellular Biology. During undergrad I spent two summers as an associate with the Boston Consulting Group and after graduating I spent two years as a predoctoral fellow at J-PAL North America—a poverty alleviation research and policy lab inside the MIT Economics department—where I completed research in Health Economics and Policy. I am a non-traditional MD-PhD student, planning to pursue my PhD in Economics at MIT, and am interested in producing research that can inform the development of sustainable, accessible, and quality healthcare systems both in the U.S. and in low-middle income countries. In stereotypical New England fashion I absolutely love seafood (my favorite Cambridge spots are Red House for something upscale and Summer Shack for something low-key) and I never fail to organize an annual apple picking trip for my friends to Honey Pot Hill (the farm with the tastiest cider donuts)! In my free time I enjoy listening to podcasts of all genres, running along the Charles, reading in my beloved hammock, and singing as part of the Kuumba Singers of Harvard College. Please don't hesitate to reach out, whether that's to talk about recruitment for consulting, non-traditional paths to medicine, research in economics/policy, or just to chat more broadly about career planning, maybe over a cup of tea :)
