I grew up locally but somehow escaped speaking with a Boston accent. I joined both the NELC and Anthropology Departments in 2010, after teaching Egyptology at Tufts University and working at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, since 1987. Over the past two decades I have directed The Giza Project, now at Harvard, which aims to collect and present online all past, present, and future archaeological activity at the famous Giza Pyramids (<http://giza.fas.harvard.edu>). Lately we've been creating immersive computer models of the Giza Pyramids in 3D, which I use in my teaching). I'm also Director of the Harvard Semitic Museum down on Divinity Avenue (<http://www.semiticmuseum.fas.harvard.edu>). Come visit! We have big plans for the coming years, and students are welcome to get involved. I teach courses on ancient Egyptian archaeology and history, hieroglyphic grammar and texts, the Giza Pyramids, ancient Egyptian literature in translation, and freshman seminars on the Harvard University--Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition (to Egypt and Sudan).
