Ali
Born and raised in Kenya, I came to the U.S. to attend Harvard (‘77) with a concentration in the Comparative Study of Religion. I studied for my Ph.D. (at Harvard) in NELC, with a specialty in Indo-Muslim Culture. I got my first teaching job right here at Harvard where I have been ever since. I have a wide range of interests in the cultures and religions of the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa. I have studied several languages (at last count, at least nine) ranging from Arabic to Persian to Swahili to Urdu. I am on the faculty in several departments (Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, African and African-American Studies, and South Asian Studies.) If you are interested in any of these departments or the Study of Religion and feel that I can be of any assistance, please get in touch.
