House Committee

The Lowell House Committee, or "HoCo" as it is affectionately known, is a group of Lowell students elected by the house primarily for the purpose of providing fun and exciting social programming. Our signature events are our two formals, the festive Yule Ball in December and the extravagant Bacchanalia in May. We also plan an event for almost every Thursday evening during the year - either a Stein Club (food, drinks, and music) in the Grille or an alternative TGIT ("Thank Goodness It's Thursday") event in the JCR. Don't let the Stein Club name fool you - there is no actual club or membership involved and all are welcome to take a well-deserved break from their studies and party with the rest of the house. Past TGIT events have included a hypnotist, chair massages, make-your-own-smoothies, game nights, movie nights, and more! We're always looking for fun new ideas, so if you have an event you would like to see HoCo put on just let us know. We also plan miscellaneous other events like Trivia Night and a charity auction.

However, HoCo is more than just event planning. Our IM reps organize Lowell's participation in intramural sports and we sell a variety of Lowell merchandise to help Lowellians show their house pride (as well as to raise funds for our events, of which all but the formals are free). We also have control over the common spaces in Lowell House (the JCR and the Grille) in the evening, and are responsible for allocating those spaces among the individuals and student groups that may request them (although much of the time these spaces are left open for unscheduled use by Lowellians). We also occasionally participate in planning and executing College-wide events like Freshman Housing Day. Lastly, we serve as a channel of communication between students and the house administration, advocating for student concerns.

HoCo meets every Monday night at 10 in the JCR. The meetings are open to all Lowellians, and we strongly encourage you to come with comments, suggestions, questions, or just to stop by and say hello! Our goal is to make Lowell House as fun as possible for all of its residents, so your input is invaluable to us. We particularly encourage new sophomores to get involved - feel free to talk to any current HoCo member if you have questions. We hope to see many of you on Monday nights!

To become a member-at-large (and earn voting privileges): attend 3 meetings in a row!
