Party and Alcohol PolicyThe Harvard College Alcohol and Drug Policy can be downloaded here. If you wish to reserve a common space (JCR, Grille, Tower, etc) please go to the online reservations page. If you wish to reserve the dining hall, please follow the procedure here. If you wish to register a party in the Grille, please download the Grille Party Rules and Registration form here. Private PartiesLowell House is a place in which to relax and socialize as well as to study, eat, and sleep, and students are encouraged to host private social occasions as their schedules and budgets allow, provided the House and College rules are followed. Remember that the primary rule of House life is consideration for the other members of this community. Lowell House students may not conduct themselves in any way that unreasonably disrupts the lives of those around them, and parties are not an exception to this fundamental rule of House life. • What constitutes a party? Any gathering that includes more than six guests in the suite constitutes a party, and gatherings exceeding 30 guests in a suite are not normally permitted. • Parties are only permitted on Friday and Saturday, and on days immediately preceding a holiday. Parties must end by 2:00 AM. Parties are not permitted in the House during reading and examination periods, or on the nights before the LSAT and GRE examinations. Parties might also be prohibited on evenings of special events. This information will be posted in the LoHo Newsletter. Known 2007-08 Party Blackout Dates: Reading and Exams Period: May 2 - May 23, 2008 Nights before the standardized tests:
LSAT:
GRE SUBJECT TESTS: • All parties must take place within a single student room or suite. If the party will include additional rooms or suites, or occur in a common area of the House, the hosts must write the Resident Dean along with their party form to request special permission. • Private parties cannot be advertised. It is permissible to extend specific invitations to a manageable number of guests, but you cannot advertise in any form, including any House open list or other email list. • If alcohol will be served, food and non-alcoholic beverages must be provided. Party RegistrationIf you want to host a party, one or more residents of your room must be responsible for hosting and supervising the event. The hosts are responsible for submitting a signed Party Registration Form: Printed copies of the form can also be obtained in the hallway outside the House Office (A-22) or from your entryway Tutor. The hosts must meet with their entryway Tutor and obtain their signature. The signed form must then be dropped off at the House Office for approval by noon on the Thursday before the event. Note: if your entryway tutor will be away from the House during your party, they or the Resident Dean (lo-abrd@fas) can suggest an alternate Tutor who will be covering their entryway. The Resident Tutor who signs a party form will check in on the party once during the evening. This is intended to make Tutors available for assistance with any problems, not to disrupt the event. Arrangements should be made beforehand so that the hosts of the party expect a visit and are prepared to ask for help or to confirm that the event is proceeding smoothly. Unregistered parties will be shut down. |
