Lowell House LibraryThe Lowell House Library is located on the second floor of D entry, and is open daily when the college is in session. The library opens for extended hours during Reading and Exam Periods. The schedule is as follows:
The library is open during regular session with the exception of certain days surrounding holidays. Please refere to the holiday schedule posted on the library door. The House Library is a quiet, comfortable place to study, write, think, daydream, and surf (wireless internet access is available). We have good collections of English and American literature, classics, and fine arts, with smaller, though useful, collections in other fields such as philosophy and government, all of which accessible through our online catalog. (We are not listed on HOLLIS, so you may want to think of checking with us online before hiking to Lamont in the dead of winter.) Most materials circulate to Lowell House members for one month and are renewable. We also have a small collection of leisure-reading magazines; these are non-circulating. Students studying for the GRE, LSAT, and MCAT may borrow the library’s review books for up to three days. Lowell House musical traditions are supported by a collection of scores and a CD collection of famous operas. House members are also more than welcome to arrange musical performances or artistic exhibitions with the permission of the Librarian (an exhibition case is available). We also have an ever-expanding collection of DVDs and a smaller collection of VHS movies available for rent. A list of DVD titles is now available. For more mundane matters, the library is also home to a photocopier, fax machine, and typewriter. Milk and Cookies, a venerable Lowell House tradition, is served every Sunday night at 10:00 pm. Interviews for library assistants are held at the beginning of the fall semester and, if necessary, during the January Reading Period. All undergraduates in Lowell House are eligible to apply, with strong preference given to work-study students in their junior and senior years. For further information, please contact the Librarian, Patty Villarreal ( pvillarr@fas ). |
