Notes on Reserving Rooms

Can I reserve rooms?
Student organizations which are not registered with the Office of Student Activities are not eligible to reserve rooms in Lowell House.

What rooms can I reserve?
See the list of available rooms. Note that procedures for the Dining Hall are different and more elaborate; if you wish to reserve the Dining Hall, click here. For all other rooms, read on.

What do I do?
Before reserving a room, check the schedule. If the room you wish to reserve is not already in use, complete the online form to submit a room request. Be sure to leave sufficient time in advance of your event to allow for reservation confirmation (at least 48 hours.) If there is no scheduling conflict, and the event is not inappropriate, the room will be reserved. Check the schedule again for confirmation. You will also receive confirmation by e-mail.

Who can reserve the SCR?
Non-SCR members wishing to reserve the SCR will need an SCR sponsor (e.g. as the “other person in charge of event.”) The SCR member sponsoring the event is required to attend the event for its entire duration.

Where do I get the key?
Obtain room keys from the Building Manager’s Office.

Are there any fees?
Generally no (except for the Dining Hall), but in some cases, especially when rooms are used by for-profit organizations, room rental charges of $30 per room may apply.

Are there any deposits?
Under some circumstances, especially when food and/or beverages will be served, a room deposit will be required. Typically, for rooms other than the dining hall and JCR, the deposit is $50. Deposits will be returned if the custodial staff reports that the room has been left in good condition, with its contents and furniture back in their original positions. Fees and deposits should be submitted to the House Office.

How many rooms can I reserve?
Ordinarily a single organization may not reserve Lowell House space for more than five hours per week.
