Please come to me with questions and concerns of any kind--in addition to my advising and administrative roles I also help Lowell House students manage personal struggles, illness and anything else you may encounter on your way to your degree. - SPRING TERM REGISTRATION. Registration for the spring is open on your my.harvard.edu portal. The last day to register is this Wednesday, January 28. If you have any trouble with registration, please let me know. - STUDY CARD. Next Wednesday, February 4th, is study card day. You may turn in your study card in the JCR, or to 20 Garden St. You can print multiple cards for different course possibilities, but you can only turn in one, which needs to have all of the necessary signatures on it. If you get signatures on your study card and then change your mind, you have two options: a) print a new card and get the signatures again, or b) turn it in as-is, then file add-drop forms to modify your schedule. - OFFICE HOURS THIS WEEK. I will have walk-in office hours this week from 11- noon on Wed, Thurs and Fri. For other times, please contact Kit in the House Office (A- 22, 5-2283, lowell@fas) to set up an appointment with me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ASK BETH, the HOUSE ADMINISTRATOR * Beth Terry, A-22, 5-2283 (lo-admin@fas.harvard.edu) Dear Beth, How can I keep my current roommate from following me into the lottery this spring? Help me! I like him well enough but we’ve been together since Freshman year and I’m looking for the Change I Need. Signed, Inspired in I Dear Inspired, You must remember this A room is just a room A guy is just a guy The fundamental things apply As Time Goes By. And when two roommates vow They should say, "For only now" On that you must rely No matter what the future brings As Time Goes By. * * * Well, I don't suppose you can lie about it at this point and claim you have an allergy to his deodorant or his addiction to Wii. Perhaps you have to take a deep breath and face it head on. Talk to him about your desire to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and bring new people into your life. Speak about your commitment to making the hard decisions and that some programs will have to end. Remind him that there is Hope for a New Age in Lowell House and that it can lead to academic prosperity for all. (Cue black & white lens) Then soften your eyes and shake your head. Confess your failings, your aspirations, your regrets. Tell him you like him enough but you just don't want to die in Casablanca ...and that you will always have I-entry to remember. Then exit stage West into the fog of the MAC parking lot. Here's lookin' at you, kid*. ~Beth * for those who do not get the film references above, it's time to ask about our DVD collection in the Lowell Library. Email Patty Villarreal, our trusty Librarian, for further information (pvillarr@fas). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ HoCo SAYS… Please remember that elections for the 2009 House Committee will be held on Monday, February 2nd at 10:00pm in the JCR. We strongly encourage everybody to come vote or run for a position. It's the best way to make sure that you are getting your voice heard in house life! For those interested in running, the details of the elections are as follows: HoCo elections are "drop down" elections, meaning that you can run for as many offices as you like until you win (or there are no positions remaining). The following positions will be elected (in this order): 2 Co-Chairs 2 Events Chairs 1 Treasurer 1 Publicity Chair 1 Stein Club Secretary 1 JCR Secretary 1 Facilities Manager 1 Merchandise Manager 3 IM Reps Candidates for co-chair or events chair may give a 2 minute (strict limit) speech, and candidates for all other offices may give a 1 minute (strict limit) speech. Voting is accomplished by secret ballot. There is no need to declare a candidacy in advance of the actual election or to obtain signatures or anything like that. Due to the drop-down nature of the elections and the fact that the list of candidates is not set in advance, we cannot allow absentee ballots. If you have ANY questions whatsoever about the responsibilities of the various positions or the mechanics of the elections, PLEASE do not hesitate to contact outgoing co-chairs Charlie Redlick (credlick@fas.harvard.edu) and Amanda Fields (afields@fas.harvard.edu). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FROM THE FELLOWSHIPS TUTORS * Josh Goldman (jdgoldm@fas.harvard.edu) * Courtney Peterson (cmpeters@fas.harvard.edu) * Susanna Mierau (susanna_mierau@post.harvard.edu) * website: http://lowell.harvard.edu/fellowships LOWELL FELLOWSHIPS MAILING LIST Want to know what fellowships are out there?
